Apple iPad A better option then HP Slate

The media following Microsoft has been constantly discounting on iPad as
too ordinary, too bulky, too clunky. Many have said that HP’s slate is far more
superior device that Apple’s iPad. So here we are going to unveil why Apple
is still of advantage then HP, and here’s why.

1. Windows 7 a operating system was never made for touch-based platforms. The most common criticism in iPad I have ever seen is the operating system itself. While I agree its user interface needs some tuning but putting a full on operating system with a device which has limited hardware is totally useless. And no matter how convenient is to run a full Windows based application, Windows 7 aren't built for touch world which makes the device total useless.

2. Slate not lighter or smaller than the iPad. Paul Thurrott a renowned technology reporter criticized the iPad for its heavy weight. Having picked up and actually played with the device myself, I firmly believe this criticism is not at all warranted. Yes its has some weight but then iPad is meant to be cradled in your lap. And don’t expect HP slate to be any lighter. The difference is almost negligible; HP Slate is only slightly smaller and a bit thicker.

3. Its nowhere cheaper then iPad. The most hilarious thing writing this article was this. When was the last time Apple competed on its price? Well iPad beats slate in price too. At $499 16GB model of Apple will be cheaper, although HP Slate’s low-end device will be 32 GB at $549 which is $50 cheaper then iPad. However one has to assume running Windows 7 will definitely take a good deal of space, so how much of advantage will the space difference really be?

4. Battery life is half that of the iPad. We’ve seen confirmation out in the field that Apple’s claims of long battery life do seem pretty close to reality. Therefore, it should concern any prospective HP Slate owner that the company itself is only claiming battery life that is half of its Apple counterpart. Again, hate to harp on it but this is a desktop OS at work again. This software requires more processing and computing power, and thus more electrical power. It’s that simple, really.

5. iPad’s battery life almost 50% more then Slate. Apple themselves boasts about their long battery life which is pretty close to reality. And HP themselves claims of have having battery life that is half of its counterpart. Hate to dwell in again and again but desktop OS software require more processing and computing power, and therefore more power, really.

5. Slate does not have a third-part application for its device. Herein lies the beauty of the iPad. Apple has already lined up a cadre of developers behind its iPhone platform, and many of them are already rushing (or have out) applications built for the larger screen and added functionality of the iPad. To my knowledge, HP does not have anything near this, nor does it have plans to. The value proposition of the Slate seems especially lost here.

So is the Slate best then Apple? Yes, in a few spots — notably the forward and outward facing cameras and the memory expansion slot. But it seems more of a reaction to Apple’s latest move than a response. Reactionary devices rarely do well.
